Successfully held focus group “How can industry, collectors and processors create new circular flows” within the UNITED CIRCLES project

As part of the UNITED CIRCLES, ZEOS, d.o.o., one of the partners, successfully organised a focus group workshop on April 2nd, 2026, in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The workshop focused on the SAŠA (Savinja–Šalek) region and was dedicated to exploring more circular, resource‑efficient and regionally connected approaches to managing materials, resources and waste streams.

Participants from industry, municipalities, research organisations and other key stakeholders jointly mapped regional challenges and opportunities, exchanged examples of good practice, and identified potential synergies. Special emphasis was placed on selecting priority focus areas and discussing possibilities for establishing a regional circular hub.

The SAŠA region has a strong industrial base and significant potential for the development of a circular economy hub. However, material volumes within Slovenia are often insufficient for large manufacturers, making regional and international cooperation essential. Educational institutions, young talent and start‑ups were recognised as key drivers of innovation and problem‑solving. Upcoming regulations on recycled content and the right to repair were highlighted as factors that will significantly impact producers and further increase the need for stable and resilient circular value chains.

The proposed circular hub could serve as an analytical, advisory and connecting centre for industry, municipalities and other stakeholders.

The workshop laid an important foundation for future collaboration and further development of circular solutions across the WEEE value chain in the SAŠA region.
